Arielle is a woman with a mission and believes her voice can make a difference. She is an advocate for people suffering with digestive illnesses by spreading a positive outlook on life through her social media presence.
Arielle’s story (based on an interview):
Arielle wants to be an inspiration to those people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome and feel hopeless with no place to turn. From her social media health and wellness site and related blog, The Happy Tummy, she gladly offers support and advice from her own experiences over 10 years on topics, such as recipes, dining out, and related support groups.
After years of battling constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas and abdominal pain, Arielle was diagnosed at 15 years of age with irritable bowel syndrome. “I remember the doctor telling my mom that there was nothing he could do and sent me home. I was relieved that I found out what I had, but disappointed that there wasn’t a way to make my stomach aches go away.” In high school, she found it increasingly difficult to manage her condition and the bothersome symptoms. After graduation, she started to become more vocal about IBS. “I told my friends of my condition and a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.”
Arielle was determined to get her symptoms under better control through years of trial and error, hard work, reading about the latest research, taking care of herself through proper nutrition and diet and stress management techniques. She has other concomitant conditions in addition to IBS, which make her life challenging, such as Celiac Disease, hypoglycemia and an immune deficiency. “I am happy to say that through hard work and patience, I am living with IBS and the occasional flare-ups of abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea from time to time.”
She takes an occasional prescription medication, and has tried multivitamin and natural supplements. She recently tried IBgard®, which she uses under her doctor’s supervision. “IBgard® worked very well to ease the symptoms, and I was quite surprised with the results. The pain and bloating disappeared.”
Arielle likes to do yoga, play guitar and make jewelry and hopes one day to devise lifestyle plans for people suffering from digestive illnesses, including IBS.
